| It is true that the backing of carpet should never be
saturated. This can happen if a cleaning system does not have
enough vacuum power to pull out cleaning solutions before they penetrate
the backing. Many electric systems (such as rental equipment) are
not powerful enough to do this. That is why "steam
cleaning" sometimes gets a bad rap for overwetting carpet.
